Resolution before the Gallaudet Faculty - April 24, 2006

WHEREAS, Gallaudet University will soon name a President from three final candidates;
WHEREAS, Gallaudet University has Strategic Goals that emphasize diversity in hiring and retention of employees;
WHEREAS, none of the final three candidates are of racially diverse backgrounds;
WHEREAS, the faculty has not had sufficient time or opportunity to interview each candidate;
WHEREAS, the community is divided on issues of diversity and the Presidential Search Process;

WE respectfully request that the Board of Trustees:

• POSTPONE selecting a President until Fall, 2006
• ADD persons of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds to the existing pool of candidates
• ENSURE the community that the selection process follows hiring practices set forth by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission of the United States.
